2020 TEAM DRYDENE HIGHLIGHTS: Scott Bloomquist returns to the World of Outlaws victory lane

Legends in victory lane: we love it! It’s no surprise that Scott Bloomquist‘s return to the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory lane is one of our 2020 Team Drydene highlights. Bloomquist got his first win of 2020 for the Outlaws at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Knox Dale, Pennsylvania on September 25.

The race was the 35th of the season. It was Bloomer’s first victory of any kind since November of 2019 at Cochran. The victory also broke a 44-race drought.

The win was also a mark of Bloomquist’s continued journey to racing at 100 percent health. In January, Bloomquist hit the track with a new No. 0 Drydene Late Model after a blockbuster announcement at PRI in December 2019. Just a few days after the season opener, he underwent hip surgery to restore movement and reduce pain of a series of nagging injuries. Bloomquist had just one month to recover before Late Model action resumed at Volusia Speedway Park in February.

The Mooresburg, Tennessee native battled lingering effects all season long, including nerve damage and numbness in his right foot—obviously, a critical issue while driving. The Hall of Famer also had a string of bad luck, including a few mechanical failures during stretches of strong racing.

Bloomquist won’t be denied at Thunder Mountain

At the 3/8th-mile track at Thunder Mountain, however, Bloomquist was unstoppable to earn the victory and a check for $10,000.

Bloomquist drew the outside pole for the future, and quickly charged to the lead in turn one. From that point forward, Bloomquist lead all 50 laps. While the field didn’t challenge him until the last laps, the No. 0 battled through a number of cautions and lapped traffic. With just ten laps to go, he fended off an incredible late-race battle with Darrell Lanigan and Brandon Sheppard to get back into victory lane.

Post-race, the legend noted that he was inching closer to full health. Bloomquist told the crowd: “It’s been too long.” We agree- and we know we’ll see Black Sunshine back in victory lane in 2021.
